RL Studio (RLS) serves as Mercor’s internal platform for task production. If your project utilizes RLS, this page delineates the access procedures, the structuring of workflows, and the navigation of common processes.

What is RL Studio?

RL Studio is the platform where experts:
  • Create tasks
  • Edit tasks
  • Review tasks (if assigned as reviewers)
  • Track task status
  • View feedback
Work in RL Studio is organized into:

Project (Campaign)

The top-level container. You are invited to a specific project based on your contract.

World

A workspace within a project. Each world may symbolize a distinct domain or task category.

Task

A single unit of work. This encompasses the prompt, any inputs, and the evaluation criteria.

How to Log In

  1. Go to:
    https://studio.mercor.com
  2. Please log in using your personal email address.
    • In most instances, this process is conducted via SSO (Okta).
    • If you’re unable to log in, you need to check with the Project Team to find out your registration email on the RLS platform.
You will not receive a separate email regarding RLS access.
If you have an active RLS project and are unable to see it after logging in, please contact your Project Lead.

Understanding Projects and Worlds

What is a Project?

A project pertains to:
  • A client engagement
  • A specific contract
  • A defined scope of work
It is possible to have access to multiple projects depending on your contractual agreements.

What is a world?

A world constitutes a workspace within a project. Typically, worlds are categorized based on:
  • Domain (e.g., Biology, Finance, Engineering)
  • Task type
  • Review structure
If you are engaged in multiple contracts, it may be necessary to transition between different worlds.

Guidelines for Switching Between Worlds

In the event that you are assigned to multiple worlds:
  1. Utilize the project/world selector located at the top left corner of the page.
  2. Verify that you are operating within the correct world prior to claiming or creating a task.
Always verify that you are in the correct environment prior to commencing work. Tasks generated in an incorrect environment are challenging to reassign.

Your Role: Writer vs Reviewer

Your permissions depend on your assigned role.

Writer

• Create tasks
• Edit tasks
• Submit tasks for review
• Address reviewer feedback

Reviewer

• Claim tasks for review
• Approve tasks
• Send tasks back with edits
• Leave structured feedback

How Tasks Work

A task typically includes:
  • A prompt
  • Optional input files
  • Evaluation criteria (rubric)
  • Status tracking
  • Review comments
Tasks move through statuses such as:
  • Pending
  • In Review
  • Approved
  • Needs Edits
  • Discarded
Exact names may vary slightly by project.

Creating or Claiming Tasks

Depending on your project setup:

Claim-Based Projects

You will:
  • See available tasks
  • Claim one task at a time
  • Complete and submit it

Create-Based Projects

You will:
  • Create a new task
  • Fill in the required fields
  • Submit it for review
Until your initial assignment receives approval, proceed exclusively with one task at a time unless directed otherwise by your Project Lead.

The Approved Tasks Tab

RLS includes an Approved Tasks tab. This allows you to:
  • See when your task was approved
  • View reviewer feedback
  • Reference previously approved work
Please note that this feature is applicable exclusively to tasks approved subsequent to the official release of the feature.

Profile Settings (Important)

Please ensure your profile name is properly updated. If your profile displays only a generic name (e.g., “contractor”), please update it within your RLS profile settings accordingly.
  • Reviewers can identify your work
  • Feedback is appropriately directed.

Common Errors & What They Mean

“No campaigns assigned yet. Contact the Mercor team to get started.”

This means:
  • Your account is active
  • But you have not yet been assigned tasks in your project
You are advised to contact your Project Lead or consult your onboarding documentation to verify the individual responsible for task assignments.

I don’t see any tasks

Possible reasons:
  • You are in the wrong world
  • Tasks are still being seeded
  • Your assignment has not yet been uploaded
Contact your Project Lead for clarification.

I cannot switch worlds

If you believe you should have access to another world:
  • Confirm the contract is active
  • Confirm your assignment
  • Contact your Project Lead

I see permission errors

Permissions are role-based. If you:
  • Cannot approve tasks
  • Cannot edit tasks
  • Cannot claim tasks
You likely do not have that role assigned.

Troubleshooting

If something is not working:
  1. Refresh the page.
  2. Confirm you are in the correct world.
  3. Log out and log back in.
  4. If the issue persists, contact your Project Lead.
  5. For technical platform errors, contact support@mercor.com with:
    • Screenshot
    • Exact error message
    • What action were you attempting

FAQ

No. In numerous instances, access is granted automatically. If you possess an active RLS project but are unable to view it, please contact your Project Lead.
Yes, if you are assigned to multiple worlds. However, always verify that you are in the correct world prior to commencing a task.
A project represents the highest level of engagement associated with your contractual agreement. A world constitutes a workspace within that project, designed to organize tasks by domain or structural criteria.
Adhere to the instructions provided by your Project Lead. While certain projects necessitate claiming available tasks, others require creating tasks directly.
If the task is returned with the designation “Needs Edits,” you are permitted to modify and resubmit it. Upon approval, further edits may be restricted.
Cease immediately and inform your Project Lead. Refrain from further editing the task.
RLS operates independently from time tracking. Please adhere to your project’s specific time logging instructions (e.g., Insightful if required).

In case of uncertainty regarding assignments, permissions, or task instructions, always initiate contact with your Project Lead beforehand.
