Mercor’s clients trust us to deliver work that is genuinely yours, performed during the time you log, and carried out in the manner you agreed to. To uphold that trust — and to keep the platform fair for the experts producing high-quality work — we monitor on-project activity for behaviors that compromise the integrity of the work, the identity of the person performing it, or the tools used to verify it.

Why we monitor

Monitoring exists to protect both you and our clients. It confirms that the hours you are paid for reflect real work, that the deliverables credited to you are genuinely your own, and that the systems everyone relies on are being used as intended. When integrity is verifiable, trusted experts are recognized for their work and the platform remains fair for everyone.

How monitoring works

Primarily, we use a third-party tool called Insightful to monitor your desktop while you are actively working. Insightful tracks time, captures periodic screenshots, and processes related signals about your work.

What Insightful tracks

Time

Active working time logged against your assigned project.

Periodic screenshots

A small number of screenshots per hour while the timer is running.

Related signals

Activity signals that help confirm the work is genuine.

What it confirms

Hours are real

Billed hours reflect real project work.

Work is yours

Deliverables are produced by the person who was hired.

Tools are trusted

Insightful, identity verification, and communication tools are used as intended.
Your privacy is preserved. Insightful does not access the files, applications, or personal data on your computer — as long as you do not open those items while the timer is running. Keep personal activity outside of your working sessions and it stays private.

What we monitor

The categories below describe the conduct most likely to result in review or enforcement action.
This is not an exhaustive list. Materially similar conduct may be treated the same way even if it is not explicitly listed here.

Time integrity

Logged hours must reflect time spent actively working on assigned project tasks. We review for:• Extended idle periods with the timer running• Time logged while engaged in unrelated activities• Inflation of hours through long stretches of low or simulated activity

Work authenticity

The person hired is the person expected to do the work. We review for:• Deliverables produced by someone other than the assigned expert• Prohibited tools used to generate substantive content• Work that does not reflect genuine effort or reasoning — including the misuse of LLMs and other AI tools

Identity integrity

Each expert is expected to operate one account, in their own name, and to perform the work themselves. We review for:• Impersonation• Account sharing• Operation of multiple Mercor accounts by a single person

Tooling & environment integrity

The tools Mercor and our clients rely on must not be circumvented or manipulated. We review for:• Tampering with Insightful or other required software• Use of software intended to mask, misrepresent, or manipulate the verification and integrity of the work performed

Confidentiality & conduct

Project materials, client information, and prompts are confidential. We review for:• Sharing project content outside approved internal channels• Posting confidential material publicly or in third-party tools• Conduct that violates the terms of your agreement or our broader policies

Staying in good standing

The simplest way to stay clear of review is to keep your time, your work, and your tools honest.

Do

• Run the timer only while actively performing assigned project work• Produce your deliverables yourself, using only approved tools• Operate a single account in your own legal name• Keep project materials, client information, and prompts within approved internal channels

Don't

• Leave the timer running during idle periods or unrelated activities• Delegate your work, share your account, or rely on prohibited tools (including undisclosed AI use) for substantive content• Tamper with Insightful or use software that masks or manipulates verification• Post confidential project content publicly or in third-party tools

Consequences of a violation

Violations may result in reductions or reversals of payment associated with the impacted work — particularly where monitoring identifies non-working time, unauthorized assistance, misuse of tools, or conduct that compromises project integrity.
Depending on the severity and frequency of the conduct, enforcement may escalate as follows:

Payment adjustment

Reductions or reversals of payment tied to the impacted work.

Removal from projects

Repeated or severe violations may result in removal from the affected project or projects.

Suspension of platform access

In the most serious cases, your access to the Mercor platform may be suspended.

Time Tracking & Pay

How hours are tracked in Insightful, how payouts are timed, and how hours are reviewed.

LLM Usage

The permissible and prohibited uses of AI tools such as ChatGPT during projects.

AI & Data Usage

What data Mercor collects, how it is used, and how to request deletion.
