Island is the secure browser some Mercor projects use for work. Signing in takes two things: your organization name (Mercor) on Island’s welcome screen, then your personal email and Okta password, the same login you use for work.mercor.com. Your Okta account also needs one security method: Okta Verify, or a security key or biometric authenticator (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello).

Start with your organization name

On Island’s welcome screen, click Sign in using organization name and type Mercor.

Then sign in with your personal email

On the Mercor sign-in card, enter your personal email (the same login you use for work.mercor.com) and your Okta password.

One security method is required

Either Okta Verify, or a security key or biometric authenticator (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello). You only set this up once.

Okta FastPass shortcut

Already using Okta Verify on this computer? Click Sign in with Okta FastPass to sign in without typing your password.

Install Island

If Island isn’t on your computer yet, install it first. This short walkthrough shows how:

Sign in to Island

Watch the full sign-in flow, then follow the steps below:
1

Open Island and click 'Sign in using organization name'

On the Welcome to Island screen, click Sign in using organization name, just below the Sign in button. You don’t need to type an email address here.
2

Type Mercor as the organization name

Type Mercor in the box and click Sign in. Island connects to Mercor’s Okta and the Mercor Sign In card opens.
3

Enter your personal email

Under Personal Email, type the email you use to log in to work.mercor.com. That’s your Okta username. Then click Next.If you already use Okta Verify on this computer, you can click Sign in with Okta FastPass instead and skip the password step.
4

Enter your Okta password

Type your Okta password and click Verify.
5

Set up a security method (first time only)

If your Okta account doesn’t have a security method yet, Set up security methods appears with two options under Required now:
  • Okta Verify: an authenticator app for your phone or computer. You approve a push notification or type a 6-digit code.
  • Security Key or Biometric Authenticator: register Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, or a hardware security key on this computer.
Click Set up on the one you want and follow the prompts. Once it’s registered, the other option moves to Optional, so you can click Continue to move on.
6

Wait for Island to load

Okta shows Signing in to Island Browser, then Island finishes loading and you’re signed in.
You don’t use your @mercor.expert email to sign in to Island. Start with the organization name Mercor, then log in with your personal email, the same one you use for work.mercor.com and Okta.

Security methods

Okta needs one security method on your account to confirm it’s really you signing in. You pick which one:
  • Okta Verify: a free app from Okta for your phone or computer. Install it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), then scan the QR code that appears on screen to enroll. After that, you approve a push notification or type a 6-digit code.
  • Security key or biometric authenticator: Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, or a hardware security key on the computer you work from. Island prompts you to register it, and from then on you unlock with your face, fingerprint, or PIN.
If you already set up a security method (during your Okta onboarding, for example), you won’t be asked again. You just confirm with it when Island asks.
Decide before you start. If you plan to use Okta Verify, install the app first so it’s ready the moment Island asks for it.

FAQs

Your personal email, the same one you use to log in to work.mercor.com. That’s your Okta username. Your @mercor.expert email is not used to sign in to Island.
No. The sign-in flow changed: click Sign in using organization name and type Mercor instead. You no longer have to pass through a password screen for the wrong account.
Mercor. If Island is showing the Business email or account box instead, click Sign in using organization name below the Sign in button to switch fields.
It’s a shortcut on the Mercor sign-in card for computers that already have Okta Verify set up. Click Sign in with Okta FastPass and Okta signs you in without a password. If it doesn’t work, use the Personal Email field below it instead.
You need one security method, but it doesn’t have to be Okta Verify. A security key or biometric authenticator (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello) works too. Set up whichever you prefer, then click Continue to skip the other one.
Yes. If your Okta account already has one, for example because you enrolled Okta Verify during your Okta setup, you won’t be asked again. Just confirm with it when Island asks.
You’ll need to set up your security method again on your new phone. Go to your contract, open the Okta Account step, and click Reset Password, which resets your MFA so you can re-enroll. See Use Okta for the full steps.
Double-check that you typed Mercor as the organization name, then used your personal email and Okta password, not your @mercor.expert email. Also make sure your security method is available (your phone with Okta Verify, or Touch ID, Face ID, or Windows Hello on this computer). If it still won’t work, email support@mercor.com with a short screen recording.
