## FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="1) What is a Mercor AI interview?">
    Mercor employs an AI interviewer to pose role-specific questions, generate a transcript of your responses, and evaluate your performance for the listing. Most interviews require approximately 20 minutes, although some may be shorter or longer. Each unique interview is only necessary to complete once; if another application necessitates the same interview, your existing result will be retained.

    We understand this can be a new experience. That’s why we offer [Practice Interview](https://work.mercor.com/auth-wall?type=interview_config_49baee86-0da1-4ee6-b701-8a842b09b9d5), which you can take freely and which does **not** affect future opportunities.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="2) How do I start my official AI interview?">
    From your Mercor dashboard:

    1. Sign in to your Mercor dashboard.
    2. Proceed to the Application tab — the steps may be completed in any sequence.
    3. If the application necessitates an AI interview, please access the application and initiate the interview process from the step list.
    4. The synchronization of completed steps across applications ensures that if you have already completed the interview, it will be reflected as such.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="3) Can I practice before my official interview?">
    The mock or practice interview feature has been deprecated and is no longer available on the platform. That said, you can still retake your AI interview up to three times if you’d like to strengthen your responses before submitting an application. \
    \
    You can also take the [Practice Interview](https://work.mercor.com/auth-wall?type=interview_config_49baee86-0da1-4ee6-b701-8a842b09b9d5), which is free and does **not** affect future opportunities.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="4) Any tips for taking an AI Interview?">
    • You do not need to complete the interview immediately — choose a time that works best for you.\
    • Use a computer with a working camera and microphone; test both before starting.\
    • Ensure your full face is visible and your voice is clear throughout the interview.\
    • Take the interview in a quiet, distraction-free environment.\
    • Wearing headphones and using an external microphone is recommended.\
    • Interviews are conducted in English unless otherwise specified.\
    • Captions are enabled by default and can be turned off, but not expanded.\
    • Some interviews are technical and require deep discussion of prior experience; others test language or reasoning skills.\
    • Have pen and paper (and a calculator, if relevant) available.\
    • Screen sharing may be required — only full-screen sharing is supported.\
    • A “hall of mirrors” effect during screen share is normal and temporary.\
    • If the interviewer interrupts due to a pause, you can let it know you weren’t finished.\
    • Some interviews include a whiteboard — content saves automatically and does not require submission.

    If you experience issues, use the **Help** button in the interview interface.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="5) What browsers are supported?">
    • Recommended: Google Chrome (latest version).\
    • Supported: Microsoft Edge (latest version), Safari.\
    • Not supported: Firefox, mobile browsers.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="6) How do I retake (reset) an interview?">
    You can self‑serve a reset from your dashboard:

    1. Go to your Mercor dashboard → open the [Assessments tab](https://work.mercor.com/home?tab=interviews)
    2. Find the interview you want to retake (status shows Submitted).
    3. Click the ⋯ (three dots) next to the status.
    4. Select Retake interview and follow the prompts.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="7) How many retakes do I get?">
    Candidates are entitled to retake an interview up to three times across all applications related to that particular interview. Should all attempts be exhausted and technical issues occur, applicants may contact support via email to request a one-time retake; however, such requests are not guaranteed approval.

    Please be advised that applicants must provide a screenshot or screen recording demonstrating the technical issue, along with the name of the interview or listing.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="8) What equipment and environment do I need?">
    • Ensure a quiet environment and stable internet connection.

    • Enable and test the camera, microphone, and speaker in the waiting room prior to commencement.

    • Articulate clearly and succinctly; refrain from prolonged pauses (extended silences may trigger interjection by the AI).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="9) How do I enable Microphone and camera access">
    1. In Google Chrome, select the lock icon 🔒 located in the address bar.
    2. Under Permissions, set the Camera and Microphone settings to “Allow.”
    3. Please refresh the page and attempt again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="10) The AI is talking over me or not hearing me. What should I do?">
    • Maintain brevity in responses and refrain from extended silences.

    • Request the AI to repeat or clarify a question if necessary.

    • If audio problems persist, exit and retake from your dashboard.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="11) I lost connection / my tab froze. How do I recover?">
    • Reopen the [Assessments tab](https://work.mercor.com/home?tab=assessments) and attempt again.

    • If the session has concluded, retake the interview via Assessments → ⋯ → Retake interview.

    • If you have exhausted your three attempts and the issue was technical, please contact support to request a one-off retake.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="12) The AI bot is not responding, what should I do?">
    1. Please wait 30–60 seconds. Short delays may occur during the AI's prompt generation process.
    2. Please refresh the page and rejoin the session.
    3. Use the appropriate browser; Chrome (latest version) is highly recommended.
    4. Please verify your internet connectivity, as unstable Wi-Fi or limited bandwidth may hinder the bot's response capabilities.
    5. Clear cache and cookies via Chrome: go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, select 'Clear browsing data,' and ensure that 'Cached images and files' as well as 'Cookies' are checked.
    6. Disable VPNs and extensions — Temporarily deactivate VPNs, ad blockers, and privacy extensions, as they may obstruct live AI streaming. Conduct a quick test by opening an Incognito window and attempting again.

       \
